How-To

▶ Select a highlighted date on the calendar (default is yesterday)

▶ A poem will appear on the right

▶ Click the button "show news story" to reveal the news story

What

Daily poetry is posted here at 10pm PST.

How

Each day at 10pm PST, a Google Cloud Scheduler wakes up and sends a message via PubSub to a Google Cloud Function (for none tech folk, read machines in "the cloud"). The Cloud Function fetches the top BBC news story, summerises the story into a couple sentences, then uses Claude to write an 8 line poem about the story before posting it to my database to appear here.

Why

Fun learning expierence using cloud infrastructure to schedule jobs on a set cadence. As a side benefit it is interesting to see the news through the positive prism of poetry.
